Hate to tell you this, but you don’t know what happens next and you won’t not until the end of the game. What you can do right now is join the escape room phenomenon and get ahead of the curve!
There are not many things that have happened in the last eight years that have taken the world by storm than The Escape Room craze. Escape rooms, originally known as “escape the room” came to the UK via Japan and Hungary. The escape room concept is the best fun you can have with your clothes on.
What is an Escape Room?
An escape room is a cross between a board game and a theatre production, but you and your team of amateur detectives are centre stage, working together in real-time to solve a problem against the clock.
Depending on where you choose to play the game last between 45-90 minutes with different levels of ability and difficulty, there’s something for everyone. First time players and experts are welcome to join in, and everyone will get something positive out of the experience.
Gather your team, whether it’s a family outing, birthday party or team building event and arrive at your choice of venue. An abandoned tube station makes a great location with underground tunnels and hidden corridors.
How about a prison break? Or stop a mad professor from starting world war three, escape the tomb of the pharaoh before a mummy wakes up and eats you, that might be going a bit far, but you get the idea.
Whatever you choose, there’s an escape room for every occasion.
London is showcasing the new Sherlock Holmes escape rooms, but there are also heavily logic/maths centric games for anyone who loves a mind-bending problem.
Love magic? How about this premise? A magician has disappeared during a magic trick, and you’ve got 60 minutes to find his book of secrets and discover where he is and what’s happened to his white rabbit!
There are even escape room venues that are so secret you have to work out where and how to access the venue before the game starts – that might be taking it a bit far!
So What’s Next?
It’s only a matter of time before JK puts her name to an actual Harry Potter escape room in her theme park. Still, for now, it’s possible to enjoy a virtual version of The Hogwarts Digital Escape Room created by a Librarian in America; this online version lets you and your team fly around the grounds of the school of magic enjoying the dark arts.
Whatever game you choose, whichever character you play, just know this, after 60 minutes your stomach will hurt from laughing, and you will exit the game feeling like a new person. The sense of achievement will be immense even if you don’t beat the competition.
Set your competitiveness free, but just don’t blame me for introducing you to this addictive style of entertainment.
